چکیده

1744 Communications to the Editor ble; however, the BAL fluid grew Mycobacterium kansasii. The patient was started on a triple antituherculotis drug regimen. Follow-up chest radiographs showed a decreasing but persistent airfluid level up to four months after the BAL procedure. Sarcidosis is frequently associated with large fibrocystic spaces that cmmunicate with the airways. It is surprising, therefore, that BAL has not been reported to he associated with the development of an air-fluid level in these cystic spaces. The reasons for this are not entirely clear. In this patient, contributing factors may include the unusually large size and gravity-dependent location of the cystic space, the instillation of large volumes of lavage fluid, and the presence of superimposed M kansasii infection. We would like to advise caution when performing BAL in patients vith large fibrocystic spaces in the dependent segments of the lungs.

Multiple endocrine neoplasia 2A syndrome presenting as peripartum cardiomyopathy due to catecholamine excess.

We report the case of a 24-year-old female with a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma who presented at 38 weeks gestation with acute chest pain and shortness of breath. She was found to be in pulmonary edema and respiratory failure. An emergency cesarean section was performed. Subsequently, an echocardiogram revealed an ejection fraction of 10%. After medical therapy with digoxin, milrinone,...

Somatic RET mutation in a patient with pigmented adrenal pheochromocytoma

UNLABELLED Pheochromocytomas (PCC) and paraganglioma (PGL) are rare neuroendocrine tumors arising from chromaffin cells of the neural crest. Mutations in the RET-proto-oncogene are associated with sporadic pheochromocytoma, familial or sporadic medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) and multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2. In the past, only few cases of pigmented PCCs, PGLs, and one case of pigmente...

Proteomic profiling of von Hippel-Lindau syndrome and multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 pheochromocytomas reveals different expression of chromogranin B.

Pheochromocytomas are catecholamine-producing tumors that can occur in the context of von Hippel-Lindau syndrome (VHL) and multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN2). Pheochromocytomas in these two syndromes differ in histopathological features, catecholamine metabolism, and clinical phenotype. To further investigate the nature of these differences, we compared the global protein expressions of...

Catecholamine metabolomic and secretory phenotypes in phaeochromocytoma.

Phaeochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGLs) are highly heterogeneous tumours with variable catecholamine biochemical phenotypes and diverse hereditary backgrounds. This analysis of 18 catecholamine-related plasma and urinary biomarkers in 365 patients with PPGLs and 846 subjects without PPGLs examined how catecholamine metabolomic profiles are impacted by hereditary background and relate to v...

Different expression of catecholamine transporters in phaeochromocytomas from patients with von Hippel-Lindau syndrome and multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2.

OBJECTIVE Phaeochromocytomas in patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN 2) produce adrenaline, whereas those with von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) syndrome do not. This study assessed whether these distinctions relate to differences in expression of the transporters responsible for uptake and storage of catecholamines - the noradrenaline transporter and the vesicular monoamine transporter...
